Summary
Design Futures Initiative is a leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2015, with 65+ chapters worldwide, its mission is to bring together people across disciplines to facilitate and advance responsible design and strategy practices around the challenges and opportunities of the future.
Since October 2018, DFI used the Futures Framework with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco to teach middle school students and help them identify and solve social challenges as they move into adulthood. In 2020, DFI planned on expanding the reach of this program to a different group of people: Children with Choranic Illnesses, However as the Pandemic emerged, it became a serious bottleneck.
Fanaticus XR partnered with DFI to craft a solution together. Children with chronic illnesses often face long-term hospitalization, and home isolation with a limited number of people allowed for visits, the pandemic made it even harder to reach this group.

Each year, children with illnesses and chronic conditions spend a great amount of time in the hospital.
Some of these children associate themselves and their lives predominantly with their illnesses.
Understanding the power of foresight is a powerful tool at any age. It’s even more critical for vulnerable
populations.
The Futures Frameworks provide tools to children at a formative time in their lives to take control of their future and create agency and hope. There’s tremendous potential to impact even more children through key growth stages and struggles.
Fanaticus helped to create digital distribution through an interactive game experience compatible with
mobile devices, computers, or VR headsets.
Our move expands program reach and access for children in hospitals, regardless of location. It is a pivotal time to test virtual learning spaces as digital education becomes more common. This program will help test a hybrid multi-platform distribution with more meaningful interactions than videoconferencing alone.
This move mitigates the challenges of in-person workshops due to COVID and helps the scalability of the Program.

The structure of the program is built around vision, collaboration and critical thinking.
In this interactive and collaborative game, children get a clear vision of where their planet is headed and have to act with agency in deciding their destiny. By sharing resources, players delve into collaboration, strategy, empathy, speculation, and imagination as they give commands to help build the strength and potency of the planet.
A natural game of risk and opportunity, this game hopes to prepare kids to think of their own futures and destinies by having a clear illustration of what the future might hold. This game fosters collaboration and community among children to navigate the potential hardships of life by helping one another through potential hard times.
